Today is September 22, 2009. The first official day of fall. Yay for Fall!
I’ve been toying with the thought of starting a blog for what seems like ages and have finally decided to jump in.But when to start? Today? Tomorrow? A random day? A holiday? I figured the first day of fall made a certain amount of sense so here I am.
I decided to look into to today’s date found that there’s more to it than I thought:
1. In 1862 Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation – Pretty major if I do say so myself.
2. Its Elephant Appreciation Day
I met this little guy on the streets of Bangkok at about 10:30pm. He was just wandering around with his owner.
My husband and I knew it was just a ploy to get attention from tourists (it worked), but we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to feed him mini bananas and get hugs from his trunk.

While in Southern Thailand we also had the opportunity to ride an elephant through the jungle. I was all for it – Craig was not.He made the right choice. I felt awful the entire ride! The ‘phant seemed so uncomfortable and I seriously wanted toss the guide off his back for using a scyth to steer. A scyth? Really, is that necessary? Then he wanted me to stand on the elephant’s head. Nope. Game over. I wanted off right then, but we were in the middle of the jungle so I just sat there unhappily until we got back to the platform. Never again will I ride an elephant. Sorry buddy.
3. Its Hobbit Day – Celebrating the birthdays of both Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. If I were to celebrate such things I would def. hold the festivities at the Hobbit Hotel
4. Its Higan – A Japanese holiday to honor the dead. Pour on out for the ancestors.

I’m a travel addicted twenty-something trying to figure out how to balance making a living with the desire to pack up and globe trot. To do lists keep me sane and I get abnormally giddy about research and budgets. My interests are many and I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.
